10-24-17 Political Round-table
Part 1: Col. Marv Milberry calls in and says hi and gives his thoughts on Korea. Assistant Republican Leader Ellie Espling joins Debi Davis, David Jones, Gordon Draper and Ray in the Political Round-table and they talk about what’s happening in Augusta. Rank Choice Voting is a huge issue because of the Constitution. There will be cost because of the legal issues coming down the path.
Part 2: Maine District 15 Sen. Roger Katz came out and blasted Yes on Question 1 because he accused them of abusing the system. Ray is upset because there is all kinds of problems with the referendum process. Ray has talked to Katz about the system being broken system. Ellie agrees there are all kinds of problems with the process and needs to be addressed.
Part 3: Maine Secretary of State Matt Dunlap calls in and State Rep. Wayne Parry joins our Political Round-table. Rank Choice Voting still hasn’t been signed into law. Governor can still veto. People’s Veto, need to gather signatures get it on the ballot. Would probably not happen until the June Primary if passed, if it doesn’t, RCV stands.
Part 4: ACLU is trying to get it so that abortion doesn’t have to be performed by a doctor and be covered by Medicaid. Maine has a doctor shortage and Ellie brings up the point that we have elderly waiting for doctors and many with disabilities and where are the priority to fund those programs over abortion.
Part 5: Ray reads an article that questions why Hillary Clinton still has campaign staff. Wayne states that most towns won’t allow RCV to happen in their own town.
