06-12-18 Political Roundtable
Part 1: Joining Ray and Debi in studio this morning are State Rep. Rich Cebra, student activist Jack Cianchette, and David Jones. They continue the discussion on the North Korean Summit and how the haters gonna hate.
Part 2: Mayor Ethan Strimling joins the panel. Ray gives a shout out to Ethan Hipple. Ethan is the Deputy Dir. of Parks & Recreation of Portland and also leader of a fantastic band, Norwegian Sausages. Ray asks the Mayor about paid sick leave. The Mayor also describes a new department he would like to implement. Rich asks Ethan about his support for Betsy Sweet. They talks about Ranked Choice Voting. Ray asks him about Cal. Gov. Jerry Brown’s veto.
Part 3: The panel is joined by Gordon Draper. Candidate Mary Mayhew calls in just to say thank you to everyone for voting and say hi. Debi applauds Mary on her campaign. Ray gives a shout out to her campaign manager, Zach. Ray asks for predictions on today’s election.
Part 4: Rich introduces the segment and calls Gordon Captain No on 1 for all of his hard work on getting signs out for the Referendum and Shawn Moody. Ray and Rich describe the event Rich held at Steamboat Landing for Rich’s campaign. They talk about Clean Election money.
Part 5: GOP Leader Demi Kouzounas joins the panel. Ray reads a statement from Max Linn who has announced he is going to run against Susan Collins. Ray and the panel all agree if he really wants to do something for Maine, form a PAC to support candidates or referendums. They talk about how signing a petition to get on the ballot doesn’t mean someone is supporting your campaign. Ray asks Rich about reforming the election process. Referendum process, paying for signatures, clean elections, it all needs to be open to discussion.
Part 6: The panel takes a call from a voter and he gives his thoughts. The caller is on his way to Florida and they talk about Key Lime Pie. Ray goes back to North Korea and how they have agreed to turn over some of the remains from the Korean War. They also talk about how hard Dennis Rodman has worked on trying to improve relations for years.
Part 7: They take a call that agrees with Debi about the Legislature going back to work and getting paid for their time. Rich agrees that it is a waste of money, but doesn’t believe that he shouldn’t work for free. Rich and Ray talk about now is the time for everyone to start working together. The Speaker needs to be non-partisan. That it is a position that requires Leadership!
Part 8: Ray and the panel discuss how the ranked choice voting is going to hold the results from being totaled and unless there is a winner with over 51%, it could be a long time before we know. They talk about how all of the money to bring RCV to Maine is from out-of-state.
