06-26-18 Political Roundtable
Part 1: Ray and David are joined by Assistant Minority House Leader Ellie Espling and WLOB’s new summer intern Jack Cianchette. They have a discussion on the President’s tweets and how they aren’t very civil. How can we get back to being civil to one another.
Part 2: Portland Maine’s Mayor Ethan Strimling joins by phone and Pete McVety joins in studio. They talk about Lenny Kravitz and his music and parents. They get into the angry people. Ethan and Ray disagree with David on the angry tones from opposite sides. Ellie says that the media isn’t helping. Ethan and Ray agree that people from the same party need to call out each other as well when the dialog gets personal and nasty. They disagree where it all began.
Part 3: The panel continues the “civil” discussion. Ray states if we want civility, we must practice it.
Part 4: The panel takes on the discussion about Jim Acosta and the attacks on Sarah Sanders and the protesters confronting Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi at a showing of a documentary about children’s TV host Fred Rogers. Gordon Draper joins us and he mentions the attack on the firefighters in Long Beach, California.
Part 5: Ray asks Ellie to give an update on what is happening in Augusta with the Legislature. She gives a rundown on the different bonds and bills in front of them. Ray asks about Gov. LePage support or non-support for the things in front of him. What does she feel he might veto.
Part 6: GOP Leader Demi Kouzounas joins us in the house. The Legislation conversation continues between Ellie and Ray. They talk about re-working the Clean Election law. Gordon asks Ellie a clarify a question about Medicaid Expansion that he saw in the Bangor Daily News.
Part 7: Ray asks Demi about what is the plan to keep Republicans in office. We need to keep the train on the tracks. We want to turn the state red with Republican support. Demi stresses that Republicans need to vote for Republicans.
Part 8: Somehow the discussion gets to dental floss. Starting with David’s candy addiction and end with Dr. Kouzounas’ trash can inspections for the floss evidence. LOL. Ray asks about proper manners vs common courtesy. Ray poses the question of whether showing good manners is a sign of being weak. They get on the discussion about political correctness and how history will repeat itself over and over or people will change it to the narrative that they want to bend it to.
Part 9: Ray and Demi give Ellie kudos for all of her hard work in Augusta. She is a good role model for incoming people. Her ethics are first class.
