Part 1: Dan Demeritt, Spokesman for the University of Maine, and Amy Gallant, Director for Advocacy and Outreach, AARP Maine join Ray and Debi this morning. There is now an upcoming shortage in the nursing field in Maine. The Maine Nursing Action Coalition (MeNAC) has updated its nursing workforce projections to reflect changes in the number of new license-eligible students graduating from Maine’s nursing programs. The prior forecast projected a shortage of 3,200 RNs in Maine by 2025. There will now be some new location options available for students. The OMNE Nursing Leaders of Maine and the American Nursing Association of Maine will join MeNAC to discuss how the state’s healthcare and education leaders are tackling the state’s nursing cliff. AARP Maine will discuss the importance of sustaining community access to healthcare for its 230,000 members across Maine.
