04-02-19 Political Tuesday
Part 1: Ray and Debi discuss the immigration and southern border briefly. Fox News Radio’s Jon Decker and Ray chat about the Mueller report and whether or not it will be redacted and what would happen if it was leaked.
Part 2: Ray’s topic is the protests that erupted yesterday in Chicago over the handling of the Jussie Smollett case, with rival groups squaring off outside the offices of Cook County. David Jones joins in the discussion.
Part 3: Ray reads a story about the 2019 ‘We The People Summit’ in Washington, DC. As the event began on Monday, there were a series of opening remarks from participants and organizations, and Jamal Watkins of the NAACP led the crowd in a chant with the words are from convicted cop-killer Assata Shakur (aka Joanne Chesimard).
Part 4: Ray, David and Debi discuss The Cowsills and their music. Ray reads points from an article about the San Diego-based U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez who declared unconstitutional the law banning possession of magazines holding more than 10 bullets . They discuss the ironic nature of Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) on Monday signing a bill that increases the penalty for “cruelly or unnecessarily beating, maiming, mutilating, or killing a dog or cat” to a felony charge, but has no problem with infanticide. Ellie Espling joins the panel and they move on to the Maine Legislature. One of the bills, LD 1034, creates additional revenue by nominally increasing fees on items like driver’s license exams, adjusting taxes on several purchases including short-term car rentals and increasing the fuel tax. LD 1157 changes the tax imposed on gasoline, increasing the tax to 37¢ per gallon during the summer and fall tourist seasons and decreasing the tax to 27¢ per gallon through winter and spring, offsetting costs for locals. The tax is currently 30¢ per gallon. LD 851 directs the Department of Transportation and the Maine Turnpike Authority to study their operations and propose reorganizations that would save on costs.
Part 5: Ray and the group talk about building the wall. Ray reads a quote from Pope Francis pleading for us not to have the wall. Ray borrows Pres. Reagan’s words “Pope Francis tear down your wall.”
