04-16-19 Political Roundtable
Part 1: The panel begins with David Jones of Making Maine Great Again, Former State Rep and GOP Gubernatorial Candidate Garrett Mason, Former Minority Assistant House Leader and Maine GOP Vice-Chair and National Committeewoman and Leader of She Leads, Ellie Espling. They start off with Maine’s Rainy Day fund. Ray and Garrett discuss the proposed budget and how will it pass. Now the Republicans have a say in the budget process and Ray asks Ellie what she would be doing if she were still Minority Assistant House Leader. The panel is joined by State Rep. Jeff Timberlake.
Part 2: This was a quick segment….best quote of the day is from Jeff “Hello, I’m from the Government and I’m here to help…”
Part 3: Maine Republican Chair Demi Kouzounas joins the panel and they talk about the election on Saturday and announces the new Maine National Committee person as Josh Tardy. He has been fighting for Maine for it seems like forever. They talk about the vote for Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh. Sen. Susan Collins stood up for the Constitution by voting for innocent until proven guilty. The topic turns to the media and their bias. They chat about what happens if one of the 19 or 20 Democrats that is running for President is elected. They talk about the newest guy that has entered the ring, South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg. They continue with some of the brilliant ideas from the Democrats. Sanctuary cities are a topic including Portland and their potholes and infrastructure. Ray asks Jeff about the bill proposed to let illegal immigrants to vote. Jeff gives his thoughts on how the vote will go.
Part 4: The panel does a quick discussion about Maine’s workforce.
Part 5: Ray asks Jeff if they will adjourn on time. Jeff expands on his answer. Ray asks him if there is a bill that the Republicans are willing to make a stand to stop. They talk about the businesses in Maine and how afraid they are about what is happening in Augusta. There are a lot of different entities/groups are starting to get the word out. Demi continues with Jeff’s thoughts and describes about the Tax Rally from yesterday. Garrett stresses that only backstop that the conservative voice have is the activists that are calling/writing to their Representatives.
Part 6: Ray asks David as a businessperson and realtor his opinion of what is happening in Augusta and the feeling he gets from the people that he talks to in his professional life. Jeff continues with those thoughts.
Part 7: Demi introduces the new National Committeeman for the Republican Party, Josh Tardy. Josh joins us by phone. Ray asks Ellie what is the role of the National Committee-person and what will be some of the things that we need to speak out on. They talk about taxes and Demi points out that if Mainers can’t pay the taxes they will end up leaving.
Part 8: Ray lets Ellie speak and explain what She Leads is all about and why she feels it is so important.
