Sylus died of blunt force trauma on several parts of his body, including fractured bones and hemorrhaging in his head and stomach. Reginald Melvin, of Milo, was originally charged with depraved indifference murder in connection with the death of his son, Sylus Melvin, in August 2021. Melvin’s trial was expected to begin on Thursday, but he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter. The boys continue to discuss the DHHS system in Maine.
